DAY TWO AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2019 ENDED WITH THE SPECTACULAR LAUNCH OF LENZING™ ECOVEROTM BY ACE DESIGNERS ABRAHAM & THAKORE
Mumbai, 23rd August 2019: Day Two at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019 had a spectacular end. It was the launch of LENZINGTM ECOVEROTM a superb sustainable and environmentally responsible viscose fibre that was turned into a grand collection of iconic Indian kurtas by top designers Abraham & Thakore.
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ is an innovation by the Lenzing group, makers of TENCEL™ fibres. This will be the first showcase of LENZINGTM ECOVEROTM as a fibre ingredient at the Lakmé Fashion Week and their first collaboration with the designer brand to include a range for both men and women’s wear.
The development of this collection started with ECOVEROTM fibres used to produce fine sustainable fabrics. The inspiration behind this year’s collection was to blend the old traditional carving and printing method with new-age technology to reinvent the timeless and customary Kurta – integrate the state of art manufacturing technology of ECOVEROTM fabric with the age-old textile wooden hand block printing.
LENZINGTM ECOVEROTM is a sustainable viscose brand manufactured only from certified and controlled wood sources and produced with significantly lower emissions and water than generic viscose. This is a substantial upgrade from normal viscose, which is known for its not so environment friendly production process. This ensures tailoring sustainable lifestyles choices, contributing to a cleaner environment.
Speaking about the collection, designers Abraham and Thakore said, "This is an exciting opportunity for us to investigate and contemporize Indian clothing traditions through the prism of sustainable practices.”

KURTA 2.0 BY ABRAHAM & THAKORE
The collection “Kurta 2.0” celebrated the traditional kurta, India’s more loved garment, which originated in Central Asia and is now a staple of not only in India but also globally.
The show opened with the melodious scatting by Shri from Hyderabad, who provided the background music throughout the ramp walk of the models.
The brand Abraham & Thakore played with the proportion of this favoured apparel and worked on experimentations with the ‘kali’, which is the age-old system of cutting developed over centuries to prevent wastage but allow great movement. The designing duo then added drapes, folds and prints to present the humble kurta in a new avatar. The colours were a neutral choice of black, ivory, olive and khaki; while the leaf, a line and just dots as motifs inspired the detailing.
Keeping the theme and the detailing in control, the designers presented men’s kurtas - some with epaulets, and strategic placement of dots, lines and leaf appliqués. In addition, there were superbly finished dhoti/kurta duos, hoodies, shorts, blousons, tunics and relaxed wide pants.
Women’s wear featured elegant saris, skirts, ombré shirts, 3D leaf appliquéd skirt, kurtas also with epaulets, mini pencil skirt, cropped tops, handkerchief-sleeve black/white dress and striped mini with patch pockets. The black sari and comfy kurti, diagonal striped dress, a gorgeous white sari with cascading black leaf appliquéd pallav, the white-on-white 3D leaf embellished maxi and the colour blocked black/white/brown slit-sleeved midi were creatively designed.
Stopping the show was the very elegant Athiya Shetty who was a picture of confidence in a black/white, broad, striped sari with a frilled edge and a matching choli.
The “Kurta 2.0” collection by Abraham & Thakore was a great merger of ancient textile traditions and sustainable fabrics created from ECOVEROTM by LENZINGTM that will be the look for the future.
