Chennai, 3rd April 2022: GEM Hospital, India’s premier Gastroenterology, laparoscopic and Robotic surgery hospital today celebrated World Health Day which falls on 7th April, well in advance by organising “GEM Marathon – A Run for Healthy Gut” aimed at creating awareness to public about the importance of healthy food habits, staying fit and maintaining healthy gut to lead a peaceful life.

An overwhelming response from the public saw participation from over 1500 runners in the marathon. It had three different categories of running distance as 3kms, 5kms and 7kms respectively. Both men and women winners from each category were awarded with cash prize of total Rs.100,000 /-. All the runners received participation certificate and a medal as a token of appreciation and encouragement. 

Thiru. P. Mahendran, Deputy Commissioner of Police Chennai City and Dr.G.Thiruvasagam, President of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Vice Chancellor of AMET University, Chennai and Dr.S.Prakash, Managing Director, Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd., flagged-off the marathon in the gracious presence of our Chief Guest Actor Sarath Kumar who later gave away the prizes to the winners and stressed on healthy lifestyle.

Dr.C.Palanivelu, Founder & Chairman, GEM Hospitals said, “Of-late we are witnessing a drastic increase in the number of patients approaching doctors for gastrointestinal issues like obesity, acidity, indigestion and also for cancer. Especially post Covid, most individuals’ food habits have gone for a toss.  We at GEM Hospital wishes to change the trend and create awareness among public to reinforce healthy food habit and to maintain healthy gut”.

On the occasion Dr.S.Asokan, CEO, GEM Hospital said, “We are glad to have successfully held our 1st marathon in Chennai for a very important cause. There is great response from public to be a part of this marathon which gives us enough confidence that we can make a positive change in the society by our awareness initiative.”
