அவரது கதாபாத்திரம் குறித்து இயக்குநர் மீரா கதிரவன் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டதாவது, “மாளவிகா மனோஜ் இந்தப் படத்தில் ‘நிலோஃபர் நிஷா’ என்ற கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்துள்ளார். படத்தில் உள்ள அனைத்து கதாபாத்திரங்களும் அவரை அன்பாக ‘நிலா பொண்ணு’ என்ற செல்லப்பெயரில் அழைப்பார்கள். இந்தக் கதாபாத்திரத்தை எழுதும் போது, 90களில் வாழ்ந்த ஒரு பெண்ணை இரண்டு காலகட்டங்களில் வேறுபட்ட தோற்றங்களுடன் நம்பகமாக வெளிப்படுத்தக்கூடிய ஒருவரை தேடினேன். அதற்காக 200–250க்கும் மேற்பட்ட நடிகர்களை ஆடிஷன் செய்தோம். இறுதியில் மாளவிகா மனோஜை பார்த்தவுடன் அவர் தான் சரியான தேர்வு என்று உணர்ந்தேன். குறிப்பாக இந்தக் கதாபாத்திரத்திற்கு கண்களிலேயே உணர்வுகளை வெளிப்படுத்தும் ஒரு பெண் தேவைப்பட்டார்” என்றார்.
 
மேலும் அவர் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டதாவது, “அவரை ஆடிஷன் செய்த பிறகு, அவரது குடும்பத்தின் ஊக்கமும், நடிப்பின் மீது அவருக்கு இருந்த ஆழமான ஆர்வமும் எங்களை மிகவும் கவர்ந்தது. அந்த சமயத்தில் அவர் தனது மலையாள அறிமுகப்படமான ‘பிரகாஷம் பரவத்தே’ படப்பணிகளை முடித்திருந்தார். அந்த படம் இன்னும் வெளியாகவில்லை. ’ஹபீபி’ படத்தில் அவருடைய கதாபாத்திரம் பெரும்பாலும் வசனங்களைக் காட்டிலும் முகபாவங்கள் மூலமும் உடல் மொழியாலும் நடிப்பை வெளிப்படுத்தக் கூடியது. அதை அவர் எப்படி கையாள்வார் என்று ஆரம்பத்தில் எங்களுக்கு ஆவல் இருந்தது. ஆனால், அவர் அதை மிகவும் திறமையாகக் கையாண்டு எங்களை ஆச்சரியப்படுத்தினார். படத்தை பார்த்த அனைவருமே அவரது நடிப்பை பாராட்டி வருகின்றனர். மாளவிகா நடித்த  ‘ஜோ’ மற்றும் ‘ஆண் பாவம் பொல்லாதது’ போன்ற படங்களின் வெற்றி, ‘ஹபீபி’ படத்திற்கு மேலும் வலு சேர்க்கும்” என்றார்.

Actress Malavika Manoj, who is riding high on the success of her back-to-back  films Joe and Aan Paavam Polladhadhu, has quickly become a promising and dependable presence in Tamil cinema. Known for her naturalistic performances and expressive screen presence, she has increasingly become a favourite choice for roles that demand both depth and relatability. In director Meera Kathiravan’s Habeebi, she takes on yet another compelling role that is already earning praise from distributors, exhibitors, and members of the film fraternity who have previewed the film.

Speaking about her role, director Meera Kathiravan says, “Malavika Manoj plays a character named Nilofer Nisha and will be fondly addressed by all the characters as ‘Nilavu Pulla’ as nickname. When I wrote the script and developed this character, I wanted someone who could portray a girl from the 90s with variations in appearance across two different time periods. My team and I auditioned more than 200–250 artistes before we came across Malavika Manoj. I felt she was the right choice, especially since the role demanded expressive eyes.

After auditioning her, it was wonderful to see the encouragement from her family and her immense passion for acting. At that time, she had completed work on her Malayalam debut ‘Prakasham Paravatte’, which hadn’t been released yet. Once she joined us, she impressed everyone on set. Since the role relied heavily on expressions and body language rather than dialogues, we were initially curious about how she would handle it. But she delivered a beautiful performance. Everyone who has watched the film has been appreciating her work. Now, with the grand success of films like ‘Joe’ and ‘Aan Paavam Polladhadhu’, it adds even more strength and reach to Habeebi.”

Habeebi, directed by critically acclaimed filmmaker Meera Kathiravan, is a heartfelt narrative that portrays the life, culture, and emotional landscape of Tamil Muslims with authenticity and sensitivity.
