AIADMK Protest Turns Controversial Over Leader Remark

In Chennai, a protest by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and its allies against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) over women’s safety turned controversial on Tuesday.

The protest was held in Villupuram and was led by senior AIADMK leader C. Ve. Shanmugam. The aim of the protest was to criticise the DMK government’s “Ungal Kanavu Sollunga” (Tell me your dreams) scheme.

During his speech, Shanmugam questioned whether Chief Minister M. K. Stalin could fulfil every demand made by people under this scheme. However, his comments became controversial when he made a remark involving a woman film actor. He said, in a mocking tone, that if someone wished to marry a woman actor, would the government fulfil that too.

The remark quickly drew criticism from political leaders, the public, and social media users. Many said the comment was inappropriate and disrespectful, especially during a protest focused on women’s safety.

What started as an attempt to target the DMK government ended up creating embarrassment for the AIADMK. The issue shifted attention away from the protest’s main purpose and instead sparked debate over the leader’s statement
