Over 150 MDMK leaders join DMK following alliance breakup
Just a day after the MDMK announced its exit from the DMK-led alliance, more than 150 party members switched allegiance to the DMK.
The leaders formally joined the party at Anna Arivalayam in the presence of DMK president M.K. Stalin. Those joining included senior office-bearers, district secretaries, legal professionals and student representatives from districts such as Sivaganga, Tiruvallur, Virudhunagar and Tiruppur.
Among the prominent entrants were Pulavar S. Sevanthiyappan, T.R.R. Senguttuvan, Thiruparankundram Azhagusundaram and R.M.S. Sekhar.
Around 40 students from the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University also enrolled in the DMK during the event.
The political shift follows the MDMK’s decision to withdraw from the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, citing dissatisfaction with developments after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and indicating that future alliance decisions would be made closer to upcoming elections.
