“Telangana Congress Faces Unrest Over Key Appointments”
Amid growing dissatisfaction within the Telangana Congress, senior party members are now pushing to rebrand the party as “Telugu Congress”. The move comes as long-time leaders feel overlooked and frustrated with the current leadership.
One major reason for the unrest is how party leaders who joined the Congress just before the Assembly elections are being given key rewards and positions, while those who have remained loyal to the party for years feel ignored. These longstanding leaders feel that their dedication is being undervalued.
Another important reason is the way appointments are being made without proper consultation. Decisions on key positions are often announced without discussion within the Cabinet or with senior party leaders in the state.
A recent example is the appointment of Assembly whips. The three new whips—Vemula Veeresham, Vijaya Ramana Rao, and Yennam Sreenivas Reddy—all joined the Congress from other parties like the TDP, BJP, or BRS. Senior ministers and the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) were not informed before the official announcement.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reportedly defended the appointments by saying that only second-term MLAs were considered. However, critics point out that in the past, first-term MLAs were also given such positions, which raises questions about fairness and consistency.
The discontent reflects deeper concerns about decision-making, transparency, and internal democracy in the party. Many senior leaders believe that unless the Congress addresses these issues and values its long-serving members, the unrest could grow and affect the party’s strength in Telangana.
