SRMIST and Southern Railway Sports Association Sign Historic MoU to Strengthen Sports Development
SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), through its Directorate of Sports, formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Southern Railway Sports Association (SRSA) on 09 June 2026 at 10:30 a.m. The MoU signing ceremony was held at the Dr. Venkatraman Ramakrishna Hall, University Building, 15th Floor, SRMIST Kattankulathur Campus.
This historic collaboration is believed to be the first of its kind in India between a University Sports Department Directorare of Sports SRMIST, Kattankulthur Campus and the Southern Railway Sports Association, marking a significant milestone in the promotion of sports development through institutional partnership.
The MoU seeks to establish a comprehensive framework for cooperation in the areas of athlete training, sports infrastructure utilization, talent identification, coaching development, sports science research, knowledge exchange, organization of sporting events, and community engagement programmes. The partnership aims to leverage the strengths and resources of both institutions to create enhanced opportunities for athletes, coaches, sports professionals, and aspiring sportspersons.
The MoU was signed in the presence of distinguished representatives from both organizations. Representing SRMIST were Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, Prof. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar, and Prof. R. Mohanakrishnan, Director – Sports. Representing Southern Railway Sports Association were Shri P. Anitha, Officer on Special Duty, Southern Railway, Shri.V. Devarajan, Sports Officer, Southern Railway, and Shri L. Karunakaran, Chief Office Superintendent, Southern Railway.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in nurturing sporting talent and strengthening the sports ecosystem. The partnership is expected to facilitate joint training programmes, coaching camps, athlete support initiatives, and innovative research activities that contribute to the holistic development of sports in the country.
The MoU reflects the shared commitment of SRMIST and Southern Railway Sports Association towards fostering excellence, inclusivity, and sustainable growth in sports. Through this pioneering collaboration, both institutions aspire to create new pathways for sporting achievement and inspire future generations of athletes.
