Reinforcing its commitment to advancing public health nutrition in India, Danone India, in partnership with the Department of Family Health and Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh, today announced the launch of a Iron Deficiency Anaemia and Protein Malnutrition Awareness Project in three districts – Lucknow, Siddharthnagar and Shravasti.

The initiative aims to address two of the most pressing nutritional challenges impacting children and communities, Iron Deficiency Anaemia and Protein Malnutrition, through a combination of awareness, early screening, and community-level interventions. Implemented in partnership with Grow Well Foundation, the project will initially be rolled out across identified districts, with a structured roadmap for scale-up.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Shashi Ranjan, Managing Director, Danone India, said:

“We are deeply committed to supporting the nation’s public health priorities, and we are proud to work in alignment with the Government of India’s Anemia Mukt Bharat mission. We remain committed to partnering with both central and state governments to drive long-term, sustainable impact, because improving nutrition is fundamental to building a healthier future for the country. Early awareness and prevention can play a critical role in improving long-term health and developmental outcomes for children. Through this initiative, we aim to contribute meaningfully by combining scientific expertise, partnerships, and community engagement”

Dr. H D Aggarwal, Director General Family Welfare, Uttar Pradesh said:

“Addressing iron deficiency Anemia and protein malnutrition remains a key public health priority for us, especially given its long-term impact on children’s health and development. This initiative is a meaningful step towards strengthening early detection and awareness at the community level. We value partnerships like this, where organisations such as Danone India bring in scientific expertise and on-ground execution capabilities to complement government efforts. Together, such collaborations can help accelerate progress towards a healthier, Anemia-free Uttar Pradesh.“

As part of the program, over 100,000 children will undergo non-invasive Anemia screening, while more than 2,000 health workers will be trained to conduct IDA screening through non-invasive Anemia screening device and spread awareness on healthy eating. The initiative is also expected to reach approximately 2,50,000 students through school-based engagement and awareness programs. As part of the initiative, a public-interest campaign anthem, “India ka Iron Up karenge” will also be released to encourage wider community awareness.

With Anemia continuing to impact millions across India, particularly women and children, the initiative underscores the importance of early detection, improved nutrition awareness, and collaboration amongst the different community health stakeholders.

Danone India remains committed to supporting India’s nutrition agenda through science-led solutions, partnerships, and sustained efforts aimed at building healthier futures.
