Sharma Praises Kohli Despite Delhi’s Loss

New Delhi, April 28 (ANI): Shyam Sunder Sharma, the DDCA Director, has strongly supported Virat Kohli against critics while criticizing the inconsistent performance of the Delhi Capitals. Following their loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2026 match on Monday night, Sharma highlighted the team’s struggles with both form and luck.

He pointed out that despite scoring high scores, Delhi kept losing matches, while low totals also led to defeats. Sharma humorously suggested that the team might need rituals or prayers for victory. He also mentioned the unprecedented demand for tickets, stating it was the highest he had seen in his 40 years in cricket.

Sharma reserved his strongest praise for Kohli, dismissing claims that the star batter is past his prime. He referred to Kohli as “Bindas Badshah,” meaning a top leader, and said he will remain at the peak of his game for another five years. Sharma also praised Kohli’s popularity, calling him the most influential player in modern cricket.

In the match against RCB, Kohli became the first IPL player to reach 9000 runs. He played a crucial role in chasing down 265 with an unbeaten 76 and two sixes at the end. Despite this, Delhi lost heavily due to strong bowling from RCB’s Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kuma

RCB won comfortably thanks to their aggressive batting, led by Jacob Bethell, Devdutt Padikkal, and Kohli. With this victory, RCB moved to second place in the points table, while Delhi dropped to seventh with five losses in eight matches.
