Vietjet soars as Asia’s SAF pioneer and best workplace winner

Mumbai: – Vietjet is celebrating two major achievements this August, further strengthening its position as a pioneering airline in Asia and a trusted partner for Indian travellers.

The airline has become the first in Vietnam to receive domestically blended Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and has also been recognised as one of Asia’s “Best Workplaces” for the fifth consecutive year at the HR Asia Awards 2025.

Driving green aviation in Asia-Pacific

Under a strategic partnership, Petrolimex Aviation will supply Vietjet with its first 1,200 cubic meters of SAF blended at Vietnam’s Nha Be Oil Depot, meeting stringent international ISCC EU standards. This initiative follows Vietjet’s earlier SAF-powered flights in October 2024 and underscores the airline’s commitment to clean energy, carbon reduction, supporting Vietnam’s National Green Growth Strategy as well as the global net-zero target by 2050.

Vietjet Standing Vice President To Viet Thang said: “This agreement between Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation underscores our commitment to green and sustainable development goals. With hundreds of modern aircraft on order, our fleet will increasingly incorporate SAF as part of our efforts to promote clean energy, reduce emissions, protect the environment and support the green transition in Vietnam and globally.

Mr. Uong Viet Dung, Director General of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, remarked: “The introduction of domestically blended SAF is not only commercially significant but also strategically important, laying the foundation for a sustainable domestic SAF supply chain while meeting international market requirements. Moreover, it encourages cooperation among airlines, fuel suppliers, regulators, and financial institutions to expand SAF usage in Vietnam.”

In 2024, Vietjet operated the first two flights using SAF fuelled in Vietnam. Produced from renewable and sustainable sources such as used cooking oil, agricultural by-products, wood biomass, and urban waste, SAF is fully certified for commercial use and can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% over its lifecycle compared to conventional jet fuel.

Top workplace for five years running

Alongside its sustainability leadership, Vietjet continues to be recognised for its people-first culture, being named a “Best Workplace in Asia” at the HR Asia Awards for the fifth consecutive year. The airline employs more than 9,000 professionals from over 60 nationalities, operating across Vietnam, India, and other international markets.

Vietjet invests heavily in its people through comprehensive healthcare, welfare policies, professional development, and support for employees’ families. Its Vietjet Aviation Academy delivers international-standard training and workshops with global experts, while modern offices and dedicated staff facilities foster collaboration, well-being, and creativity.

With direct services connecting top Asia-Pacific destinations to Vietnam’s major hubs, Vietjet is uniquely positioned to deliver both sustainable travel options and a world-class workplace culture. These milestones highlight the airline’s dual commitment to driving the future of green aviation and creating opportunities for people across the region.

Vietjet has quickly expanded its India-Vietnam network, now operating 10 direct routes between the two countries. From major Vietnamese cities, Indian travellers can also connect seamlessly to top destionations across Asia-Pacific thanks to Vietjet’s affordable and convenient connecting flights.
