LPG Supply Disruption Affects City Workers

LPG Supply Disruption Affects Auto Drivers and Small Businesses

Several LPG filling stations in the city reported no fuel supply on Thursday. Auto drivers said they have been facing shortages since Monday, March 9. The situation has caused serious problems for many daily workers who depend on LPG for their livelihood.

In Bengaluru, most auto rickshaws run on LPG as their main fuel. A smaller number use CNG, and only a few have switched to electric vehicles. Because of the fuel shortage, many auto drivers are finding it difficult to operate their vehicles and earn money.

The ongoing LPG supply crisis is also affecting the food and hospitality sector. Restaurants, hotels, and small food businesses rely on LPG cylinders for cooking. Due to the disruption, many establishments are struggling to continue normal operations.

Informal workers such as auto drivers, gig workers, roadside food vendors, and employees in micro, small, and medium industries are expected to be the most affected. These workers depend on daily income, and any fuel shortage directly impacts their earnings.

The disruption in the supply of commercial gas cylinders has continued for more than four days. Reports suggest that the shortage is linked to the ongoing US–Israel conflict with Iran, which has affected fuel supply chains.

Many workers are now worried about how they will manage their daily expenses if the situation continues. They are calling for quick action to restore normal LPG supply and reduce financial stress.

Authorities are expected to monitor the situation closely and take steps to stabilize fuel distribution in the coming days.
