Padi Rail Overbridge Widening Work Begins Chennai
The State Highways Department has started major widening work at the Padi Rail Overbridge (ROB) on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai (Inner Ring Road)
The project, which has a budget of Rs 139 crore, aims to ease traffic congestion on this busy corridor. Currently, the bridge has three lanes, but after the expansion, it will become a dual five-lane structure, allowing smoother movement for vehicles.
In addition to widening the bridge, the narrow approach stretch towards Padi—known as a traffic bottleneck for years—will also be expanded. This is expected to reduce jams and improve traffic flow during peak hours.
Officials said the work is part of the government’s ongoing effort to upgrade Chennai’s road infrastructure and make commuting faster and safer for residents and commuters.
Once completed, the upgraded bridge will significantly improve traffic on the Inner Ring Road, which connects several key parts of the city, benefiting both private vehicles and public transport.
