The institutions announce their partnerships, following the successful completion of a two-year collaborative research in assessing the extent of antibiotic misuse in dentistry in India, and developing strategies to eliminate it
Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital and Sree Balaji College of Nursing are also establishing various research and academic partnerships with The University of Leeds.
Chennai, 20 August 2022: Sree Balaji Dental College & Hospital (SBDCH), a premier institution offering quality dental education and dental care in India, and a part of Bharath Institute of Higher Education & Research (BIHER), is joining hands with The University of Leeds, one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK, for research collaborations, launch of new programs for UG & PG students, online teaching, and student & faculty exchange.
It is to be noted that SBDHC and The University of Leeds has recently completed a two-year collaborative research program in evaluating the extent of antibiotic misuse in dentistry in India and developing strategies to eliminate it. This program was headed by Dr. Aarthi Bhuvaraghan, Associate Professor, Oral Medicine & Radiology, SBDCH and Dr. Vishal Agarwal, The University of Leeds.
In addition to the dental college, Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital (SBMCH), and Sree Balaji College of Nursing (SBCN), both belonging to BIHER, are also set to sign agreements with the foreign university in several academic and research areas.
A high-level delegation from The University of Leeds, headed by Dr Piruthivi Sukumar, Pro Dean, International Faculty of Medicine and Health, and Associate Professor, School of Medicine, has recently visited BIHER institutions to formalize joint agreements. The team held discussions with Dr WMS Johnson, Dean, SBMCH, Dr. R. Veerabahu, Adviser, SBMCH, Dr. D.R. Gunasekaran, Medical Director, SBMCH, , Dr. P. Sasikumar, Medical Superintendent, SBMCH, Dr Gopi Ayyaswamy, Liason Officer, SBMCH, Dr. Florida Tilton, Jt. Director (Research), SBMCH and Dr. BWC. Sathiyasekaran, Dean - Research, Dr. S. Bhuminathan, Registrar, BIHER University, Dr. Badri Thiruvenkatachari, Director Research, SBDCH, Dr. Jimson, Principal and HoDs of SBDCH, Prof. Hemavathy, Principal, SBNC, and researchers from the Department of Nursing.
In his comments on the partnership with The University of Leeds, Dr. Gunasekaran, said, “We are very happy to have strengthened our relationship with The University of Leeds, which is one among the top 100 universities in the world (QS World University Rankings 2021), and the top 10 universities in the UK (The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide).
This partnership will fuel continued collaboration between our institutions and bring forward new opportunities for joint research and education. We will be able to utilize the strengths and expertise of each other and move the association to the next level for the benefit of the society at large.”
