CII's Power Plant Summit Champions Efficiency, Sustainability & AI in Thermal Power Sector

The 21st edition of the Power Plant Summit, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry- Green Business Centre (CII – GBC), is taking place on 16th and 17th September 2025 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC). This year’s theme, “Empowering the Future of Thermal Power: Efficiency, Sustainability, Flexibility and AI,” addresses advancements and critical challenges and advancements in thermal power sector.
Mr. Bidya Nand Jha, Chairman – Power Plant Summit 2025 and Executive Director (Operations), National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), underscored the importance of the thermal power sector in India’s energy mix. He said: “With the GOI’s plan to increase the Renewable Energy installation to 50% of the total installed capacity by the end of 2030, the average Plant Load Factor (PLF) of Indian thermal power plants is expected to reduce to accommodate the uncertainty and variability of RE. With this it becomes imperative that the sector should shift its focus to technologies that will support increased efficiency during part load operations with reduced emissions.”
Mr. Praveen Gupta, Member (Thermal), Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power, Government of India, in his special address, remarked: "Energy efficiency in power generation is critical to India’s energy security and environmental sustainability. By adopting innovative technologies, operational best practices, and policy frameworks, we can significantly reduce the sector’s carbon footprint while ensuring reliable power supply."
Mr. Y. Rajashekara Reddy, Director (Thermal & Projects), Telangana Power Generation Corporation (TGGENCO) also joined the Summit and shared his insights. He noted, "TGGENCO has consistently maintained high Plant Load Factors, demonstrating robust O&M practices and efficient utilization of resources and by embracing supercritical technology, we have not only improved efficiency but also reduced emissions, aligning ourselves with the country’s sustainability goals.”
The inaugural session of Power Plant Summit 2025 also witnessed the official launch of the publication: “Advancing Efficiency, Innovation & Flexibility in Thermal Power – A Manual for Indian Thermal Power Plants.”
The summit will explore innovative methods to enhance energy efficiency, advance environmental management practices, and enhance flexible operations in thermal power plants. A key focus will be on the integration of automation and artificial intelligence to drive performance improvements and sustainability.
The Power Plant Summit 2025 is being organized in tandem with the 24th CII Energy Efficiency Summit and the 26th National Energy Awards for Excellence in Energy Management, where India’s top-performing power plants will present & showcase their technical & managerial expertise in energy efficiency and energy management.
